Frequently Asked Questions

What is the IRS Form 1098-T?
Form 1098-T is a statement that colleges and universities must issue to certain students. It provides the total dollar amount paid by the student for what is referred to as qualified tuition and related expenses (or "QTRE") in a single tax year.

How do I opt-in to receive and view the Form 1098-T electronically?
1.) Log in to your Self-Service portal
2.) Click on "Tax Information"
3.) Click "Change Preferences," then "Receive my 1098 only in electronic format," and then "Save"
4.) Regardless of your electronic preferences, all available tax forms will be available to view/print here.

When will I receive the 1098-T form?
If you opt to receive your 1098-T electronically before the end of the calendar year, you will receive an email in late January notifying you when the form is available in Self-Service. If you do not opt to receive your 1098-T electronically, a paper form will be mailed to your home address on file. The College is required, by law, to provide Form 1098-T to eligible students no later than January 31. Mailed paper forms will be postmarked by January 31.

What semesters are included in my Form 1098-T?
Box 1 of Form 1098-T reflects payments made during the calendar year for qualified tuition and related expenses, and it is not based on when the classes were attended or billed to the student account. Your student financial statement(s) will show the dates payments were posted to your account and are a valuable resource for determining the semesters that are included in your Form 1098-T. These are available online via your Self-Service portal account or can be requested from the Business Office.
