Hazardous Materials Awareness

The goal for the student of Hazardous Materials Awareness is to prepare the students who, in the course of their normal duties, could encounter an emergency with hazardous materials/weapons of mass destruction (WMD). They are expected to recognize the presence of a hazardous material/WMD, call for trained personnel to assist, secure and protect the area. This course serves as the initial training as required. Primary target students for this class are First Responders. Student will need to bring to class a pen/pencil and notebook. Prerequisites: none.

Fire Ground Support

This class is the second level which upon successful completion the student shall be able to identify and utilize the basic knowledge, skill, and abilities as they relate to fire ground operations. This will introduce new firefighters to fire ground operation including fire behavior, building construction/structural collapse, fire hose, water supply, communications, ropes and knots. Self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). Prerequisites: Completion of ELIS, HMA and the minimum age is 14 years at the start of the course.

Exterior Fire Fighter

This class is the third level which upon successful completion an entry level firefighter will be able to identify and utilize basic knowledge, skills, and abilities as they relate to exterior fire ground operations This course will show new firefighters the fire ground operation including SCBA, fire behavior, building construction, fire extinguishers, forcible entry, ladders, and fire streams/hose line advancement. Student will need to bring pen/pencil, notebook, Essentials of Fire fighting/skills book and all other equipment as needed. Prerequisites: ELFG, NIMS 700, student must be 14 years of age at start of class.

Hazardous Materials Operations

The goal of this class is to provide the emergency responder with the training needed with the skills to comply with NFPA 472 Chapter 6.2. This course will provide training for first responders that respond to releases or potential releases of hazardous substances as part of the initial response for protecting nearby persons, property, and the environment. Personnel are trained to respond in a defensive fashion to contain the release from a safe distance and to keep it from spreading and prevent exposures. An understanding of basic hazard and risk assessment, how to select and use proper personnel protective equipment, basic hazardous materials terms, basic control, containment and/or confinement operations within the capabilities of the resources and the PPE available, basic decontamination procedures and termination procedures. Student supplies: Pen/pencil, notebook and equipment as stated by instructor.

Interior Fire Fighter

This entry level course is the 4th level in the curriculum. This class is designed to introduce new firefighters to interior fire ground operations including SCBA, Search and Rescue Procedures, firefighter survival, ventilation, utility and loss control, origin and cause and fire control/suppression. Once successfully completed an entry level firefighter shall be able to identify and utilize basic knowledge, skills, and abilities as they relate to interior fire ground operations. Student supplies: pen/pencil, notebook, necessary equipment, Essentials of Firefighting Book/Skills book. Prerequisites: ELEF, HMO and student must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
