Training Package

Luzerne County Community College's Public Safety Training Institute is pleased to announce the option of training packages for Fire, Rescue, and EMScompanies/departments. With the development of these new packages, it allows LCCC training to be more affordable and allows us to better serve your department/company. The packages also allow you,as a customer,to customize training for your specific needs. Annual package fees shown are for calendar year 2021. PSTI WILL BE FOLLOWING CURRENT GUIDANCE FOR COVID-19 AS PROVIDED BY THE CDC AND THE PA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AT THE TIME OF THE CLASS.

Introduction to the Fire Service

As per the PA State Fire Academy, "this entry level course is designed to introduce new firefighters to basic information including an overview of the fire service, fire service organization, firefighter safety, personal protective equipment, tools and emergency lighting. This is the first of five (5) levels. Upon successful completion an entry level firefighter shall be able to identify and utilize the basic knowledge, skills, and abilities to begin their fire service career." Student will need to bring Pen/Pencil, notebook, Helmet, gloves, turnout coat, turnout pants, boots, protective hood, and protective eyewear (Safety glasses or goggles) required for all classes, you will be told when to bring it in the building. Students will need the Essentials of Fire Fighting, 7th Edition by the International Fire Service training Association (IFSTA) which are available on the IFSTA.org website. Pre-requisites: Minimum age: 14 years old at the start of class. PLEASE NOTE THAT LCCC WILL BE FOLLOWING THE CDC AND THE PA DEPT. OF HEALTH GUIDELINES FOR COVID 19 AT THE TIME OF CLASS.

Hazardous Materials Awareness

As per the PA State Fire Academy, "the goal of the Hazardous Materials Awareness course is to prepare students who, in the course of their normal duties, could encounter an emergency involving hazardous materials/weapons of mass destruction. The are expected to recognize the presence of a hazardous material/WMD, call for trainined personnel to assist, secure and protect the area. The primary target audiences for this course are the Firest responders (fire, rescue, emergency medical, police, etc.) who will witness or discover a hazardous substance/materials release. Students will be trained to initiate an emergency response sequence by notifying the proper authorities of the release." PLEASE NOTE THAT LCCC WILL BE FOLLOWING CURRENT CDC AND PA DEPT. Fire Ground Support

As per the PA State Fire Academy, "This entry level course is designed to introduce new firefighters to fire ground operation including fire behavior, building construction-structure collapse, fire hose, water supply, communications, ropes and knots, Self-Contained breathing Apparatus. This is the second of Five levels in the curriculum. Upon successful completion an entry level firefighter will be able to identify and utilize basic knowledge, skill, and abilities as they relate to fire ground operations. Prerequisites: Introduction to the Fire Service, Haz Mat Awareness. Minimum age: 14 years old at the start of the class." Referenced Texts: Essentials of Fire Fighting Seventh Ediction. Exterior Firefighter

As per the PA State Fire Academy, " This entry level course is designed to introduce new firefighters to fire ground operation including Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), fire behavior, building construction, fire extinguishers, forcible entry, ladders, and fire streams/hose line advancement. This is the third of five levels in the curriculum. Upon successful completion an entry level firefighter shall be able to identify and utilize basic knowledge, skills, and abilities as they relate to exterior fire ground operations." Hazardous Materials Operations

As per the PA State Fire Academy, " this course is to provide training for first responders that respond to releases or potential releases of hazardous substances as part of the initial response for the purpose of protecting nearby persons, property and the environment. Personnel are trained to respond in a defensive fashion to contain the release from a safe distance. The goal of this program is to provide the emergency responder with the training needed to comply with First Responder Operations Level training identified inthe NFPA 472 Core Competencies." Interior Firefighter

As per the PA State Fire Academy, "This entry level course is designed to introduce new firefighters to interior fire ground operations including Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, Search and Rescue Procedures, Firefighter Survival, Ventilation, Utility and Loss Control, Origin and Cause, and Fire Control (Suppression). This is the fourth of five levels in the curriculum. Upon successful completion an entry level firefighter shall be able to identify and utilize basic knowledge, skills, and abilities as they relate to interior fire ground operations.
