The five area colleges collectively award the Regional Luzerne County Council on Adult Higher Education Award each year to one student at their institution. To be considered, faculty, staff and administration are encouraged to nominate an LCCC student for this prestigious award.
Candidates must meet the following criteria at the time of award: Age 24 or older; minimum GPA of 3.0 with 45 credits completed at LCCC; enrolled in 6+ credits in current semester; involvement in campus and/or community activities; good community standing; and achievement despite adversity.
The recipient must be able to attend the award reception hosted by a participating institution later this semester.
Nomination must be received by noon on Friday, February 28, 2025.

The members of the LCCC Alumni Association are once again conducting their annual Gertrude Hawk Easter Candy Sale. This sale includes an extended discount of 30% off the catalog pricing to all staff, students and graduates.
The catalogs/packets have been distributed on campus to faculty and staff to those who have ordered during the last year (Christmas or Easter 2024). If you haven't ordered before and would like a catalog, please contact me or stop by my office (room 208G, Campus Center) or near the switchboard / admissions office in building 5 to pick up a packet later this week. If you receive a packet via interoffice mail and don't plan to order, please pass it along to someone who may or return to the Alumni office so we may reuse it.
Orders are due on Monday March 10 and payment is due when you place your order. Checks should be made payable to "LCCC Alumni Association" and note on the memo line "GH Sale." Please contact me directly if you would prefer to pay via credit card. Orders will delivered the week of April 7.
A portion of the proceeds will support LCCC student programs. Thank you for your continued support!

Join the members of the LCCC Alumni Association at the Mohegan Sun Arena to see the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins take on the Bellville Senators on Saturday, March 8! Your $22 ticket will include one lower level seat in the red zone (sections 102 & 103), a Penguin's giveaway voucher and a chance to win a ride on the Fanboni.
Puck drop is 6:05pm sharp and this game is the annual St. Patty's Day Celebration and sure to be a fun night out! All potential Graduates who will be participating in the May Commencement ceremony must order their attire on the Jostens website

Orders must be placed by the deadline date of Saturday, March 15.
Orders will not be accepted after the deadline date.
Graduates will have the option to have their cap and gown shipped to their home for $14.95 or your order can be shipped to the Bookstore at no charge.
A separate broadcast message will be sent around the week of May 5 or sooner with pickup instructions.

The library is currently hosting a traveling exhibit from the National Library of Medicine entitled Binding Wounds, Pushing Boundaries: African Americans in Civil War Medicine through March 8, 2025.
In conjunction with this exhibit, Professor Jeff Schultz will be giving a lecture on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at 12:30pm in the LCCC Library.

The members of the Alumni Association are excited to announce that we are planning a Spring CASH bingo on Sunday, April 27 in the Trailblazer Cafe of the Campus Center. Tickets for the fundraiser are $25/each and now on sale. Tables of 8 or more can be reserved.
The event will feature 20 games, specials, theme baskets, door prizes, 50/50, bake sale, food & drinks will be for sale and entertainment by our bingo caller, Rob Sax, Class of 2022! Seating is limited so mark your calendar to join us for this fun filled afternoon!

The Student Success Center is seeking students who are majoring in accounting to join our tutoring team! Please see the qualifications listed below. If you meet the qualifications and are interested in peer tutoring, please contact me at tstefanski@luzerne.edu so we can review the courses you have completed.
Courses:
Peer tutoring is an important and beneficial component to the overall academic achievement for many of our students. Tutors are paid $14.50 per hour. The hours are flexible and will be adjusted in accordance with the tutor's class schedule.
Qualifications to Become a Peer Tutor:
-Have completed the course with a minimum of 3.3 GPA (B+)
-Have an overall GPA of 3.0
-Have a flexible schedule
-Be able to work a minimum of 5 hours per week
-Provide a letter of recommendation from course instructor
-Provide a letter of interest which can be a simple paragraph stating academic and personal strengths.
-Be a highly responsible student
-Possess good interpersonal skills
-No prior tutoring experience is necessary

Esports Free play day February 20 from 10 am to 2 pm. Come by, play some games, and hang out! If you play on a controller, it's advised that you bring your own. We are located on the 3rd floor of the Campus Center, Building 14 in the Esports Arena.
Stop by the Trailblazer Cafe today from 9:00 am - 11:00 am for free coffee and hot chocolate while supplies last. You will have the opportunity to talk to Ms. Passarella or a Peer if you are looking for support for your courses.
The LCCC Business Club will hold a bake sale on Wednesday, February 19, between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm in the Campus Center. There will be a wide variety of baked treats and snacks. Please come on down and check it out!
The NAACP/Multi cultural will club will meet tomorrow 2/19 at 12:30 in the Gymnasium (building 8).
All ACT101 students are reminded that we will be holding a workshop entitled "Note Taking" on February 20 at 11am in the ACT101 office, room 118. If you are planning on attending, please RSVP to Cindy at cmalkemes@luzerne.edu. If you have already RSVP'd there is no need to do so again.

LCCC Main Campus will open at 10 AM on Sunday, February 16, operating on a compressed schedule.
The Financial Aid Office will begin disbursing federal financial aid funding including the Pell Grant, SEOG - Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant, and Stafford loans, beginning the week of February 17, 2025. Students who have applied for federal financial aid and are eligible for federal funding can monitor their Self Service for disbursement updates on their accounts.
