Pittston Center Activities Week of 9/16

9/17: The Pittston Farmer's Market is held from 9am -2pm this day!

The Student Success Center is seeking students to join our tutoring team! Please see the qualifications listed below. If you meet the qualifications and are interested in learning more about our tutoring program, please contact me at tstefanski@luzerne.edu.

Peer tutors are needed for the following math courses: MAT 050, MAT 060, MAT 101, MAT 105, MAT 105A

Peer tutoring is an important and beneficial component to the overall academic achievement for many of our students. Tutors are paid $14.50 per hour. The hours are flexible and will be adjusted in accordance with the tutor's class schedule.

Qualifications to Become a Tutor:
-Have completed the course with a minimum of 3.3 GPA (B+)
-Have an overall GPA of 3.0
-Have a flexible schedule
-Be able to work a minimum of 5 hours per week and a maximum of 20 hours per week
-Provide a letter of recommendation from course instructor
-Provide a letter of interest which can be a simple paragraph stating academic and personal strengths.
-Be a highly responsible student
-Possess good interpersonal skills
-No prior tutoring experience is necessary

TrailBlazer Esports is looking for players for a wide Variety of games! From Fortnight, Smash, COD, League, and more. We support over 15 different games.

Come by the Student Life and Athletics Office (on the 3rd floor of the Campus Center, in the Student Life lounge) and talk with Kyle Davis about competing!

All skill levels are welcome. Requirements to play are flexible and open to part time students! Games every week.

Registration dates for higher tier completions close after September 19.

In order to to access computers in any academic labs or classrooms, instructors and students must use an individual academic network account. Do not use another person's account and do not share your account information with anyone else.

If you do not already have an account, you can log into any classroom or academic lab computer using the generic account with the username "temporary" and the password "Tempuser1" (case-sensitive, no quotes). This temporary account will no longer be accessible after the first few weeks of the semester.

Today the Luzerne County Community College flag flies at half mast in honor of longtime college community member and friend, Theodora Janosov, who recently passed away.

Teddi was a friend to faculty, staff and all students, and will be missed by all.

The Pennsylvania State Police announced temporary delays and road closures for the visit of Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday September 13 to Wilkes University. Delays and closures will be on the following roads:

Interstate 81
State Route 309 (Cross Valley Express Way)
Academy St. to Market St.
South River St. to Wilkes Barre Boulevard

Delays will take place in the late afternoon and evening hours.

Please give yourself enough time if you plan on going to the LCCC Wilkes-Barre Center.

The library is putting out board games to be played all day today! Come on in and enjoy some relaxation time with your fellow students.

Paving at the entrance to Trailblazer Drive (by front of Buildings 1, 9, and 11), Learning Way (by back of Building 9, 11, 14), and Conference Drive (leading to Buildings 10 and 12) will be conducted on Thursday, September 12, 2024, beginning around 8 AM and lasting for several hours.

Egress at those locations will be limited to the entrance points at Trailblazer Drive (by front of Buildings 1, 9, and 11), Learning Way (by back of Building 9, 11, 14), and Conference Drive (leading to Buildings 10 and 12). Egress will remain in place but there will likely be some delay with getting in and out due to only the entrance being open at a time.

We appreciate your continued patience and understanding as we make these important infrastructure improvements on campus.

The Atherton Gymnasium (building 8) is now open. The hours are 7:30AM to 3:30 PM Monday, Wednesday and Friday. 7AM to 3PM Tuesday and Thursday. As a reminder sneakers must be worn when using the Gym.

Students who attend classes at the Health Science building are reminded to park in the student parking area (Broadway Lot) across from the Weis Market. Parking spots behind the building are for staff and faculty. Students are also reminded to not park in the Geisinger parking lot. Violations are subject to towing by Geisinger. Parking on the city streets is permitted subject to city parking rules. Violations on LCCC property are subject to tickets and possible fines.

Please be advised that East Main St. between Market and Walnut, will be closed beginning September 9, 2024 through September 13, 2024 (24 hours a day) for roadway reconstruction. All side streets leading to Main St. (Locust, Prospect, Shea, Broadway) will be closed to Main St. Please follow detour signs and make time adjustments to get to your destination on time.

As we begin the Fall Semester 2024, Campus Safety and Security would like to remind all students regarding safety and security measures while on campus.

Campus Safety and Security is located in Building 1 and can be reached 24 hours a day. Security can be reached directly at ext. 7304 or 570-740-0304, 570-239-0128.

Student ID's and parking passes are available in Campus Safety and Security Building 1. Please have a copy of your schedule (on paper or on cellphone) to receive an ID.

The Campus Security Department is available to provide on-campus escorts at any time. Anyone desiring an escort is asked to call ext. 7304, (570) 740-0304, cell phone (570) 239-0128. A Security Officer will respond to your location and provide assistance.

We encourage everyone to register with the Campus Emergency Text Messaging System which will inform you of campus closings, delays, emergency alerts, and other important information. Just go to www.luzerne.edu/alerts to register.

The college also makes available a "confidential tip" form for reporting any crime, potential crime, suspicious behavior, or threatening situation. This confidential tip form can be found on the student intranet under the LINKS heading.

We encourage everyone in the college community to "see something, say something". Please do not hesitate to report any suspicious activity to the campus safety and security department.

The possession or use of firearms or other lethal weapons on college property by unauthorized individuals is strictly forbidden. Individuals who possess a permit to carry a concealed firearm may not bring the firearm on campus or to college-sponsored events on or off campus.
