LCCC honors graduates at spring 2024 commencement

Pacelyn April King knew she made the right decision attending Luzerne County Community College.

As she stood in front of her peers giving the graduate address during the 56th annual LCCC Commencement Ceremony on May 23, King smiled as she recalled her experiences and the education she received at the College.*

"The two years I spent here I received an amazing education and made countless memories and friends along the way," she said. "I want to say thank you to all of my professors, the staff, and my classmates that not only made my time here at LCCC memorable but also for pushing me to my fullest potential."

King was one of 573 graduates who received their associate degrees, certificates, and diplomas during the spring commencement ceremony at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre.

King, who graduated with an associate in business administration, told the Class of 2024 that attending LCCC was one of the best decisions of her life.

As her classmates start the next chapter of their lives, King urged them to think back to their time at the College and how it has helped them.

"I urge all of you to remember the lessons we learned at LCCC - the importance of hard work, the value of perseverance and the power of community," King said during her commencement speech. "These lessons will be valuable as we navigate the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead."

Besides King, the commencement ceremony featured internationally recognized humanitarian and founder of the because I said I would movement, Alex Sheen.

Sheen's social movement and non-profit is dedicated to bettering humanity through promises made and kept. Sparked by the loss of his father, Sheen and his organization send "promise cards" to anyone anywhere in the world at no cost.

Other students recognized during the ceremony included Lalaj Johnson, who received LCCC's Alumni Association Outstanding Graduate Award and who graduated with an associate in audio/video communications, and Joseph Maffei who received the Outstanding Adult Learner Graduate Award and who graduated with an associate in business management.

Trinity Hull, who graduated with an associate in general studies, sang the Nation Anthem.
