Luzerne County Community College (LCCC) proudly celebrated the achievements of its graduates during its 2025 Commencement Ceremony held Thursday, May 29, at Mohegan Arena. The event recognized the academic and personal accomplishments of hundreds of students, with special honors presented to two graduates whose journeys reflect extraordinary dedication and resilience.
Among the evening?s highlights was the presentation of the Alumni Association Outstanding Graduate Award to Shelby Eileen Ford, a 32-year-old mother of two and Integrated Media Design major. Ford was recognized not only for her academic achievements but for her entrepreneurial spirit and creative vision.
"Choosing to attend LCCC because my mom went here makes the experience even more meaningful," Ford shared. "If she could accomplish this while pregnant, then I can certainly follow her path as a mother of two."
Ford turned her passion for art into a growing business, The Pink Punk, which specializes in creative face painting and custom design work. She credits her college education for giving her the tools to bring her vision to life. "It?s amazing to look back at the progress I?ve made. The work I did initially compared to now is truly incredible," she said.
Patricia Besermin, President of the LCCC Alumni Association, presented the award and praised Ford?s determination and innovation. "Shelby embodies the spirit of LCCC?someone who uses their talents, education, and life experience to build a better future for herself and her family."
Also honored was Frantzcy Bazelais, recipient of the Outstanding Adult Learner Graduate Award. Bazelais, known for both academic excellence and community leadership, was celebrated for his tireless commitment to learning and service.
Bonnie Brennan Lauer, Director of Alumni Relations, presented the award, highlighting Bazelais as a student whose perseverance has left a lasting impression. "Frantzcy is a determined student who consistently gives 100% to every task he undertakes. He is a true asset to the classroom and an example of what a committed learner should be."
Beyond the classroom, Bazelais founded Positive Liaison, a community initiative in Scranton focused on promoting civic engagement and improving the public image of the Haitian community. "My passion for community advocacy drives me to uplift and mobilize those around me," Bazelais said. "It?s not just about education?it?s about empowering others."
The commencement ceremony underscored LCCC?s mission to provide accessible, high-quality education and to nurture leaders who give back. As Ford and Bazelais embark on their next chapters, they leave behind a legacy of perseverance, creativity, and purpose that will inspire future generations of LCCC students.
